Destroy Lonely Fairfax Concert reviews
Same fabulous Sting in a reinvented style
Destroy Lonely has once again raised the bar and proved that he can do it all by reinventing his classics into symphonic style. Despite all the musicians, Destroy Lonely's voice was still the star. A brilliant performance by both singer and musicians.
A brilliant performer like Destroy Lonely, matched with the beauty and majesty of symphonic music, just might breathe new life into struggling symphonies around the country. Part of the success of this concert HAS to go to Maestro Steven Murcurio, conductor of the Symphony, and art of the team that arranged the orchestrations.
I was lucky to see it at one of the first concerts in Portland. Despite all the people on stage, his delivery still felt intimate, like he was singing to just a few people. Symphony Conductors, listen up! It's OK to combine pop with classical music.
Several years ago, it was proof of a great entertainer to be able to do his music "unplugged," i.e. without the heavy background music. There may still be a few bugs to work out - the lights didn't always hit a featured performer at the right time and the TV screens were tilted so far down that we people in the "cheap seats" in the balcony didn't really get to see much.
